A Costly Renovation Mistake I Almost Made in San Jose

This lesson came from a small renovation project in a San Jose, California home. The plan was to replace flooring in one room, and I almost made a decision that would’ve caused problems later.

Before photo – old and damaged flooring.

I nearly installed laminate flooring without letting it acclimate to the room. I was impatient and wanted to finish quickly, but after reading more and checking the instructions again, I realized skipping that step could cause buckling.

During renovation – Mid-process of fixing the floors.

Letting the flooring sit for 48 hours delayed the project, and honestly, it was annoying. One box was slightly damaged too, which meant returning it before installation.

After photo – finished flooring.

The floor turned out well, though one plank still clicks slightly if you step on it just right. If you’re renovating in San Jose, don’t rush flooring installation — climate and temperature matter more than you think.

:warning: Real Reminder

Waiting can feel slow, but fixing mistakes later is worse.
