A Driveway Upgrade That Changed the Front of the House (Toronto)

Driveways are easy to ignore until they start causing problems. I saw this firsthand during a driveway upgrade in Toronto, Canada.

The old driveway had multiple cracks and uneven sections. It still worked, but parking was awkward, and water collected near the garage whenever it rained. Over time, those small issues became daily annoyances.

Instead of patching it again, the homeowners decided to replace the surface completely. Prep work took longer than expected because the base underneath wasn’t level and needed to be rebuilt.

That part wasn’t visible in the final result, but it made all the difference.

Once the new driveway was finished, the front of the house felt cleaner and more put together. Water drained properly, and parking became easier.

The total cost came in around $9,600, mainly due to excavation and base repairs.

If you’re in Toronto and thinking about driveway work, don’t skip base prep. It’s not the exciting part, but it’s what keeps everything in place long-term.
