A Simple Flooring Change That Made a Big Difference (Toronto)

I didn’t realize how much flooring affects a space until I saw this change in a Toronto, Canada home.

The house itself was in decent shape, but the floors were old laminate that had started to separate at the seams. It wasn’t terrible, but it made the rooms feel colder and more worn than they really were.

Instead of replacing everything at once, the owners started with the main living area. They chose engineered hardwood mainly because of durability and easier maintenance during winter.

What slowed things down wasn’t the install, but the prep. Leveling the subfloor took longer than expected and added to the cost.

Once the flooring was finished, the house felt warmer and quieter. Footsteps sounded different, and even the lighting seemed better against the new surface.

The final cost for the space was about $7,400, including prep work and materials.

If you’re renovating in Toronto, don’t rush flooring decisions. The right choice can change how your entire home feels.

If anyone has switched flooring recently, I’d like to hear what you picked and why.
