Sometimes it’s not the inside of a house that needs attention first. I noticed this during a small exterior update on a home in Vancouver, Canada.
From the street, the house looked tired. The siding was fine structurally, but the paint was faded and uneven in a few spots. It didn’t reflect how well the interior was maintained.

Instead of replacing siding, the homeowners focused on cleaning, minor repairs, and repainting. Pressure washing alone made a noticeable difference before any paint was applied.
Choosing the right exterior paint mattered because of Vancouver’s weather. Moisture resistance was a bigger factor than color trends.

Once the job was done, the house felt newer without changing anything major. The total cost stayed around $5,600, mostly because there was no full replacement involved.

This project reminded me that small exterior updates can have a huge impact. If you’re in Vancouver and thinking about curb appeal, paint and prep work can go a long way.
What’s the first exterior upgrade you’d do on your house?
