Before/After: Fixing a Leaky Bathroom Sink Cabinet

So I started noticing this weird musty smell under my bathroom sink. Took a closer look and saw water stains and a bit of swelling at the bottom of the cabinet. Turns out the P-trap was dripping slowly and the faucet supply lines weren’t sealed properly.

Here’s what I did to fix it:

First thing I did was remove the old P-trap. It was cracked and loose, so I swapped it out with a new PVC one I grabbed from Home Depot. Then I took apart the faucet lines and sealed them back with plumber’s tape. Tightened everything down properly this time.

Next, I dried out the cabinet with a fan for a full day to make sure there was no moisture left behind. The base was already damaged, so I cut a new piece of plywood, painted it with waterproof paint and dropped it in. I also added a plastic drip tray to catch anything in the future, and just for peace of mind, I threw in a small moisture alarm I found on Amazon.

Before, it was stained, swollen and just looked gross. After, it looks clean, solid and protected in case anything leaks again.

Total cost was around 34 bucks.

P-trap was cheap

Plywood and paint added up

Moisture alarm was like 12 dollars

Honestly if you’ve got cabinets under sinks, especially in older places, set up a drip tray and alarm. It’s way cheaper than replacing the whole thing later :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Want to make your living room pop without spending a ton? Here are some easy ideas:

  1. Splash Some color
Throw some bright pillows, blankets, rugs, or artwork around to liven things up. Even just one colorful thing can do the trick.

  2. Add Plants
A few plants or flowers can instantly make any room feel newer and more alive.

  3. Light It Right
Mix up your lights. Use lamps, overheads, or even string lights to get that warm, snug vibe. Natural light’s great too, so let the sun shine in!

  4. Move Things Around
Try switching up your furniture. Open up the space and make it feel more inviting. Point chairs at each other so people can chat easily.

  5. Make It Personal
Show off your photos, art, or stuff that reminds you of good times. It makes your guests feel at home because it feels real.

  6. Keep It Clean
A tidy space always feels better. Grab some baskets or shelves to keep things neat.

  7. Soft Stuff
Use soft blankets, cushions, or a rug to make the room feel warm and cozy.
