Before the renovation, the bedroom felt dated and worn. The carpet was flattened from years of use, the walls were a dull beige, and the single small window barely let in light. In winter, drafts crept through the frame, and during humid Illinois summers the room felt heavy and uncomfortable. It worked as a place to sleep, but it didn’t feel relaxing or personal.
The renovation started with clearing everything out and addressing the hidden issues first. Old wiring was replaced, insulation was added, and a new energy-efficient window went in. Once the basics were fixed, the space began to change. Hardwood floors replaced the carpet, instantly making the room feel cleaner and warmer. The walls were painted a soft neutral tone, brightening the space without feeling cold.
Storage was redesigned with a built-in closet system, which reduced clutter and opened up more floor area. Layered lighting a ceiling light, bedside lamps, and a small reading sconce created a cozy atmosphere. A few simple details finished it off: blackout curtains, a plant by the window, and framed photos above the bed.
After renovation, the bedroom finally feels like a calm retreat comfortable, organized, and ready for every season Illinois brings.
