When toys began taking over the living room, I knew it was time to carve out a dedicated playroom. The spare bedroom, once used for storage, became the perfect candidate for renovation.
I started by painting the walls in cheerful pastel shades, each wall a different color to keep the room lively. I laid down soft, foam floor tiles to make the space safe for playtime. Built-in cubbies and bins provided organization for the mountain of toys.
A chalkboard wall quickly became a hit, letting the kids draw and write freely. I also added a small reading corner with a beanbag chair and low bookshelves. To encourage imagination, we set up a play kitchen and building blocks in different zones.
The biggest success was adding low, open shelving that allowed the kids to clean up themselves. The playroom didn’t just give them space—it also helped teach responsibility.
Now, the kids have a space to be creative and active while the rest of the house stays much tidier. The playroom has become one of the busiest and happiest rooms in the house.
Conclusion:
Turning a spare room into a playroom showed me how renovations can serve the whole family. By designing with kids in mind, I created a safe, fun, and organized environment that benefits everyone.
