This DIY shelving project was done in a bedroom closet in San Diego, California. Storage was always an issue, so adding simple shelves felt like an easy weekend task. It turned out to be a bit more work than expected.
Before photo – cluttered closet.
I measured everything ahead of time, but once I started installing the brackets, I realized one wall wasn’t straight. That threw off the spacing, and I had to remove one bracket and reposition it.
During renovation – shelf brackets being installed.
After cutting the boards and mounting the shelves, things looked better, but one shelf still sat slightly lower on one side. I adjusted it as much as I could without reopening holes in the wall.
After photo – organized closet with new shelves.
The shelves aren’t showroom-perfect, but they’re sturdy and made the closet far more usable. For a San Diego DIY project, it was a good reminder that older walls don’t always cooperate.
Honest Thought
Function mattered more than perfection on this one.
