DIY Floating Shelf in 5 Simple Steps

Floating shelves are an easy way to add storage and style to any room. I built one above my desk last weekend, and it only took a couple of hours. Here’s how you can do it too:

1. Cut & Sand – Get a wooden board cut to size and sand it smooth.

2. Stain or Paint – Apply your preferred finish and let it dry.

3. Mark & Drill – Use a level to mark the wall, then drill for the brackets.

4. Install Brackets – Secure them into studs or use anchors.

5. Mount Shelf – Slide the board on, tighten, and test stability.
