DIY Upgrade That Makes Old Floors Feel New

In Waco, Texas, a homeowner got tired of squeaky floors that made the house feel cheap no matter how clean it was. Replacing the flooring was not an option, so they tried a simpler fix.

First, they located the floor joists using a stud finder. Then they drove trim screws through the subfloor into the joists, sinking them slightly below the surface. Each screw was spaced carefully to avoid cracking the wood.

The squeaks disappeared almost instantly. The floor felt solid and quiet without tearing anything out.
