In my last post I talked about Slap door kitchen cabinets, in this one I will be talking about Frameless kitchen cabinets.
Frameless cabinets:
sometimes called European-style or full-overlay cabinets, eliminate the traditional face frame around the cabinet box, allowing doors and drawers to sit flush against the edges.
This design maximizes interior storage by providing up to 15% more usable space compared to framed cabinets, as there’s no protruding frame to obstruct access.
It offers seamless, contemporary lines that align with minimalist trends, popular since the 1970s in Scandinavian and German kitchen designs.Advantages extend to better accessibility for items in the back of cabinets and easier integration with modern hardware like soft-close hinges. Common materials include particleboard or plywood for the box, with doors in laminate, wood veneer, or painted finishes for versatility.
They’re particularly suited for small kitchens where space efficiency is crucial. On the downside, frameless cabinets require high-quality construction to prevent sagging over time, as the box bears more structural load without a frame.
Professional installation is recommended to ensure level mounting, especially on uneven walls, with costs averaging $200–$500 per linear foot installed.
They also allow for creative layouts, like floor-to-ceiling units, enhancing a modern, built-in look.
