Homeowners looking to upgrade their spaces are getting some relief as renovation costs have started to fall in recent months.
According to the Checkatrade Home Improvement Index, prices for popular projects such as bathrooms, kitchens, and bedrooms have all dropped. The average bathroom fitting now costs £5,525, down from over £6,000 late last year. Kitchen fitting prices have also dipped to £6,803, while bedroom fittings have fallen to £3,631.
Painting, decorating, window fitting, and plastering have also become cheaper. Even larger-scale building work, once averaging more than £15,000, has decreased to around £12,369. Outdoor projects such as patios and driveways are also seeing price reductions, with material costs being the main driver of the decline.
With a hot summer pushing demand, air conditioning installations have become more affordable too, and according to Zoopla, they can even boost property value by nearly £5,000 if added in summer.
Checkatrade’s CEO Jambu Palaniappan welcomed the trend, noting that falling material costs are helping the industry “return to more normal levels” after last year’s spikes in labour and supply prices.
Conclusion
For homeowners, the timing is favourable: renovations that seemed out of reach just months ago may now be more affordable, making it a good moment to plan upgrades while prices remain steady.
