How do I adjust a Blum 170° face frame hinge?

My folks have cabinets in their kitchen, and suddenly one of the doors won’t shut. It looks like the problem lies with the bottom hinge. I attempted to adjust it according to a PDF I found, but it just won’t cooperate. I’m at a loss… How do I adjust a Blum 170° face frame hinge?

Having trouble with your cabinet door not closing when you’ve got a Blum 170° hinge? No worries, it probably just needs a tweak! Start by checking if the screws are snug. You’ll see some tiny screws on the hinge that you can adjust to shift the door around – in, out, left, or right. Give them a little turn each time to see if things line up better and the door closes right. If it’s still a no-go, the hinge might be damaged and you might need to swap it
out.

To adjust a Blum 170° face frame hinge, use the three screws: one shifts the door side-to-side, one adjusts depth, and loosening the mounting plate lets you move it up or down. If the bottom hinge won’t hold, check for loose screws or damage in the cabinet frame. Replace the hinge if it’s stripped or worn.

To adjust a Blum 170° hinge, turn the front screw to shift side to side, back screw for depth, and arm for height

Adjusting a Blum 170° face frame hinge can be a bit tricky, but it’s doable with the right steps. Here’s a general guide:

  1. Identify the hinge type: Confirm it’s a Blum 170° face frame hinge. Check for markings or labels on the hinge.
  2. Understand the adjustment screws: Blum hinges typically have adjustment screws for:
  • Vertical adjustment (up/down)
  • Horizontal adjustment (in/out)
  • Depth adjustment (forward/backward)
  1. Loosen the screws: Before adjusting, loosen the screws that hold the hinge to the cabinet frame and door. This will allow for easier adjustment.
  2. Adjust the hinge:
  • For vertical adjustment, turn the screw clockwise to move the door up or counterclockwise to move it down.
  • For horizontal adjustment, turn the screw clockwise to move the door in or counterclockwise to move it out.
  • For depth adjustment, turn the screw clockwise to move the door forward or counterclockwise to move it backward.
  1. Tighten the screws: Once you’ve made the necessary adjustments, tighten the screws to secure the hinge.
