My kitchen always lacked counter space so I decided to build my own island.
I used stock cabinets from a hardware store as the base. I added a butcher block top and painted the base a contrasting color. Wheels made it movable which was perfect for my small space.
It became both a prep station and storage solution at a fraction of the price of a store bought island.
Final thought: A kitchen island does not need to be expensive. Would you build one yourself?
