Renovating your home doesn’t mean your art has to stay hidden away in storage. With some planning, you can both protect and showcase your collection, even while construction is underway.
1. Choose a Safe Display Zone
Select a dust-free, low-traffic area away from the renovation site such as a finished room, hallway, or dedicated gallery wall. This keeps your pieces visible but out of harm’s way.
2. Use Temporary Display Systems
Portable easels, freestanding shelves, and picture ledges make it easy to move your artwork as needed. Avoid drilling new holes during the renovation to prevent unnecessary wall repairs.
3. Protect From Dust and Vibration
Cover frames with breathable dust covers or lightweight plastic sheeting. For sculptures, consider clear acrylic display cases to shield from debris without hiding the art.
4. Optimize Lighting
If your usual lighting is disrupted, use temporary clip-on lamps or LED strips to maintain proper illumination without exposing art to excessive heat.
5. Rotate and Refresh
Since you may have less display space during renovations, rotate pieces periodically. This keeps the collection fresh for you and your guests while ensuring each piece gets its moment to shine.
