In cold climates, do attic radiant barriers meaningfully improve performance or risk condensation/ice-dam issues when combined with typical ventilation and air-sealing?

No. it’s a scam.
I’ve seen these products actually cause MORE damage.
In chilly areas, you’re usually better off focusing on good insulation, making sure your attic vents right, and sealing up any air leaks. Those basics do way more to keep the heat inside and stop moisture problems.

In cold climates, radiant barriers add minimal benefit since conduction and air leaks dominate heat loss.
With good air-sealing and ventilation they’re low-risk for condensation, but upgrading insulation is usually a better investment.
