Step 1: Turn Off Power
Go to your circuit breaker and switch off the power to the light you’ll be working on. Safety first!
Step 2: Remove Old Switch
Unscrew the wall plate, then carefully disconnect the existing switch.
Step 3: Identify Wires
You’ll usually see line (power), load (to the light), neutral (often white), and ground (green or bare). Make sure you know which is which.
Step 4: Connect Smart Switch
Attach the wires to the smart switch according to the instructions—line to line, load to load, neutral to neutral, ground to ground.
Step 5: Secure and Mount
Push the wires neatly back into the box, screw the smart switch in place, and reattach the wall plate.
Step 6: Restore Power
Turn the breaker back on and test the switch.
Step 7: Set Up App
Download the manufacturer’s app, connect your switch to Wi-Fi, and finish setup.
Done: You now have smart lighting that can be controlled by app, schedule, or even voice assistants.
