Rental Apartment Refresh: From Worn-Out to Stylish on a Budget

This renovation started with a challenge: update a tired rental apartment without spending too much or making changes that couldn’t be reversed. The “before” was familiar beige walls, scuffed floors, dim lighting, and outdated hardware that made the entire place feel older than it was.

The strategy focused on cosmetic improvements. Removable peel-and-stick wallpaper added character to an accent wall without damaging the surface. Simple, modern curtain panels replaced heavy drapes and allowed more natural light to flow in.

Lighting was upgraded with plug-in fixtures and brighter LED bulbs, instantly making the apartment feel bigger and cleaner. The kitchen benefited from peel-and-stick backsplash tiles and new cabinet handles small changes with surprisingly big visual impact.

Area rugs covered worn flooring while adding warmth. A mix of thrifted furniture and new decor helped define each space without overcrowding it. Plants added life, and framed prints personalized the walls.

When the refresh was complete, the apartment felt intentional, cozy, and far more modern proof that thoughtful design doesn’t always require major construction. Even as a rental, the home now reflects personality and comfort, while remaining completely reversible if needed.
