The Safer Communities and Neighbourhoods Act (SCAN) unit of the Alberta sheriffs recently took action to close down a problematic property in Lethbridge due to ongoing drug activity. This marks the third closure in 2024 by the SCAN unit, highlighting the significance of addressing such issues in our communities.
According to Mike Dirkson, manager of the SCAN unit in southern Alberta, the investigation into this property began in early 2021 following multiple complaints. Dirkson emphasized the rarity of such closures, with this being the 129th property shut down out of over 8,800 investigations conducted by the unit.
As we approach the one-year mark of the southern Alberta SCAN unit’s operations in Lethbridge, it’s clear that efforts to maintain safer communities are ongoing. This serves as a reminder of the importance of addressing problem properties promptly to ensure the well-being of residents and the neighborhood as a whole.
