Contractors love to price block work, tiling, painting, roofing — but very few include cleanup and waste removal in the quotation. After the beautiful renovation, you’re suddenly left with piles of broken tiles, cement bags, wood offcuts, and dust everywhere. Then you discover another cost: carting away debris.
Always ask early: “Who is responsible for site cleanup and waste disposal?” Put it inside the contract. Waste disposal can require trucks, laborers, and sometimes local fees. If it’s not discussed, it becomes your headache at the end when you’re already tired and broke.
Also insist on daily light cleanup. Tools scattered everywhere cause accidents. Nails, broken glass, and sharp tiles can injure children or pets. A tidy site is not just about beauty — it is safety and efficiency.
Renovation isn’t finished when the last tile is laid — it’s finished when the place is clean and livable.
