During our kitchen renovation, I kept trying to design everything at once cabinets, flooring, backsplash, hardware, lighting. It was like juggling too many ideas.
Then someone gave me simple advice:
“Pick one thing you absolutely love, and build around it.”
My “one thing” turned out to be a set of handmade tiles. They weren’t flashy or expensive, but they felt special. Once we chose them, every other decision became easier. We picked quieter countertops so the tiles could shine. The cabinet color came next. The lighting followed.
That single anchor piece kept me grounded whenever I felt tempted by something trendy but unrelated. If it didn’t belong with the tiles, it didn’t belong in the kitchen.
It taught me that creativity isn’t random chaos it often needs a focal point.
Now every renovation project starts the same way. I find one object, one color, or one detail that genuinely makes me smile. Everything else grows from there.
A strong design doesn’t come from fifty ideas fighting each other. It comes from one clear vision, supported thoughtfully.
