For years, our backyard was just grass and an aging concrete slab. We always said, “One day we’ll fix it.” But summer after summer, it stayed untouched, and we rarely went outside.
We finally decided to treat it like another room.
We added a simple paver patio, string lights, and a modest pergola for shade. A few planters and an outdoor rug softened everything. Nothing fancy just thoughtful.
The transformation surprised us more than any indoor renovation.
Neighborhood barbecues started happening. Morning coffee moved outdoors. Even ordinary evenings felt like a small getaway. The yard didn’t become magazine-perfect, but it became lived-in and that mattered more.
The “before” was wasted space.
The “after” became part of our daily life.
