Some contractors speak perfect grammar, bring laptops, show glossy pictures, and sound very professional. It feels reassuring, so you relax. But renovation doesn’t respond to English — it responds to competence and honesty.
Always look beyond presentation. Ask for addresses of real projects you can visit, not only edited photos. Talk to previous clients if possible. A truly good contractor is proud of their old jobs. A talk-only contractor keeps everything theoretical.
Be careful with contractors who rush you to “just trust the process”. Real professionals explain patiently, give options, discuss risks, and help you understand cost differences. If every question annoys them, imagine how they’ll behave halfway into the project.
Renovation success depends less on sweet talking and more on clear work, clean records, and consistent presence on site.
