The Scrapbook That Saved My Sanity

During our renovation, I hit a wall. Too many choices, too many opinions, too many decisions that all seemed permanent. To clear my head, I started something simple: a renovation scrapbook.

Every time I saw something I liked a paint chip, a swatch of fabric, a picture torn from a magazine I glued it in. I didn’t try to organize it. I didn’t judge it. I just collected.

After a few weeks, a pattern started to appear. Lots of natural textures. Soft blues. Warm metals. Without realizing it, I was building my style. The scrapbook helped me stop second-guessing every purchase because I could see everything working together on paper first.

It also became a reminder that creativity doesn’t have to be perfect. Some pages were messy. Some combinations didn’t work. But that’s part of the process. Renovation is trial and error not a straight line.

Whenever I feel overwhelmed again, I pull out the scrapbook. It reminds me why we started and where we’re going.

Finding inspiration is easier when you collect it, review it, and let it evolve instead of chasing every trend that comes along.
