The Weekend I Finally Fixed the Drafts

I’d lived with chilly rooms for years, convincing myself it was just “how the house was built.” Then one windy weekend, curiosity won. I lit a candle and walked around the windows and doors. The flame leaned everywhere.

I bought weatherstripping, foam insulation, and a tube of caulk. Nothing fancy. A couple of podcasts later, I had sealed door frames, patched gaps around outlets, and tightened window locks that had loosened over time.

That night, the house felt different. Quieter. The heater didn’t run nonstop. Even the hallway that always felt like a refrigerator finally warmed up.

The surprise came on the next utility bill not huge, but noticeably better. It wasn’t glamorous work, but it was empowering.

Conclusion: Sometimes comfort isn’t about adding more heat it’s about keeping what you already pay for inside the house.
