This project took place during a small interior update in Vancouver, Canada. I didn’t think drywall choice mattered much until I actually had to replace a few damaged sections in an older home.
Before photo – damaged and patched drywall.
The first mistake was assuming all drywall sheets were the same. After installing one section, I noticed the thickness didn’t match the existing wall exactly. It wasn’t obvious at first, but once light hit it, the seam showed.
During renovation – drywall installation and taping.
I ended up swapping to moisture-resistant drywall in one area near a window. It cost slightly more, and carrying the sheets upstairs was harder than expected. I definitely underestimated how awkward drywall is to move in tight spaces.
After photo showing a smooth, finished wall.
In the end, the wall looks good, though one corner still needed extra sanding to blend properly. If you’re renovating in Vancouver, especially in older homes, match drywall thickness carefully and don’t rush finishing work.
